Summer Is Almost Over. Is Your Website Still on Vacation?

It’s August in Palm Springs — which means it’s hot, people are sweaty and miserable, and your motivation is either cranking into gear… or completely melted onto the sidewalk.
If you’re a local business, summer can feel like a strange mix of slowing down and gearing up. Tourism dips, locals hide indoors, and that back-to-school vibe starts creeping in (even if you haven’t touched a backpack in years).
But here’s the thing: while it’s too hot to do much outside (unless you enjoy hiking the Bump and Grind in 110° — in which case, I salute you and wish you well with your hospital stay), it’s a perfect time to give your website a little love.
Be Honest: Has Your Website Been Coasting?
If you’re like most small business owners or nonprofit teams I talk to, your website was updated… once. Maybe. Back when people still said “pivot” unironically.
Here are a few signs your site might still be mentally sipping a frozen drink by the pool:
- Your homepage still has a “Spring Sale” banner
- You can’t remember the last time you looked at your contact form
- It’s slow to load or doesn’t look great on your phone
- You have new services or updates — but none of them are on your site
- Your prices listed are way out of date
- You don’t even know if people are finding you through Google
If you nodded at even one of those, you’re not alone. I’ve seen it more times than I can count — and the fix is usually simpler than people think.
Why Now Is the Best Time to Fix It
Fall and winter are coming. (Don’t worry, this isn’t a Game of Thrones reference.) For many local businesses, that means:
- Seasonal visitors return
- Tourism ramps back up
- Holiday shopping, events, and bookings pick up
If your website isn’t ready — or worse, makes people work to find what they need — you’re going to miss out.
Taking a few hours now to clean things up means you’ll be in a much better spot once the weather breaks and people start actually going outside again.
Bonus: You get to feel productive in the air conditioning.
What You Can Do (Without Rebuilding Everything)
You don’t have to scrap your site and start over. Start with the basics:
- Make sure your hours, services, and offerings are current
- Check that your site loads quickly on mobile (most local traffic is mobile-first)
- Add any testimonials, case studies, or new photos you’ve collected
- Test your contact forms (seriously, I’ve found broken ones on active sites)
- Review your homepage — does it still reflect what you actually do?
If you want a second set of eyes, I do offer quick website tune-ups and monthly management plans — built specifically for small teams and local businesses.

Let’s Make Room for the Good Stuff
Palm Springs will cool off eventually. You’ll be back outside enjoying Art Walks, hiking the Bump and Grind, or sitting on the patio with your third cold brew.
But right now? It’s the season for iced coffee, indoor productivity, and maybe a little digital clean-up.
If your site’s been on autopilot for too long, I’d love to help.
