The Chula Vista Starlight Parade & Festival is a long-running Southern California tradition with a large, diverse audience and a fast-moving schedule. For the 2025 event, I partnered with Soundskilz Inc. to support the parade across website design, paid and organic digital marketing, and graphic design.

Case Study Snapshot

  • Event: 61st annual Chula Vista Starlight Parade & Festival
  • Partner: Soundskilz Inc.
  • Primary need: Give attendees clear event information while building regional awareness and excitement
  • Work delivered: Website design, paid social, programmatic advertising, paid search, organic social, graphic design, and ongoing website support
  • Outcome: A coordinated digital presence that supported promotion, event planning, and timely attendee information across channels

The Challenge: Coordinate a High-Visibility Community Event

Major public events have many moving parts. Attendees need schedules, routes, street-closure details, and festival information. Vendors and sponsors need their own resources. Meanwhile, the promotional campaign has to reach people across the region and give them a reason to attend.

Because event details can change right up to parade day, the digital system also needed to support fast updates without becoming confusing or inconsistent.

The Approach: Treat the Website and Marketing as One System

Rather than separating the website, advertising, social media, and graphics into isolated pieces, the work was coordinated around a single visitor journey: create awareness, build excitement, answer practical questions, and make it easy to attend.

That meant keeping the message and visual identity consistent while adapting each part of the campaign to its role.

The Website: Clear Information for Attendees, Vendors, and Sponsors

The event website was designed to make essential information easy to navigate. The schedule, parade route, street closures, festival layout, vendor details, and sponsor information were organized so visitors could quickly understand where to go and what to expect.

For a public event, usability is part of the marketing. When information is clear, the experience feels more welcoming before attendees ever arrive.

The Campaign: Regional Reach Across Multiple Channels

The promotional strategy combined several channels to reach families and event-goers across San Diego County:

  • Paid social advertising across Facebook and Instagram
  • Programmatic display campaigns aimed at local audiences
  • Paid search for people actively looking for holiday events
  • Consistent organic social content leading up to parade day
  • Coordinated graphics for social posts, ads, and promotional materials

The campaign delivered coordinated advertising and organic content across the channels above, with each touchpoint directing people back to current event information. The website remained the central source for schedules, routes, street closures, vendor details, and festival updates.

Ongoing Support: Keeping a Live Event Current

Event websites do not stand still. Vendors are added, sponsors change, schedules are refined, and last-minute information needs to be published quickly. Ongoing maintenance, security updates, performance checks, and responsive content changes helped keep the site dependable through event day.

The Outcome: A Cohesive Digital Presence for a Beloved Tradition

The finished work gave the Starlight Parade a coordinated digital presence that supported both promotion and event-day planning. The website answered practical questions, the campaign expanded visibility, and the creative work carried the event’s holiday energy across channels.

What This Shows About My Approach

I’m most useful when a project needs someone who can see the whole digital picture—not just build a page or place an ad. For this event, the website, marketing, content, graphics, and ongoing support all worked together toward the same goal.
